Metal Additive Manufacturing: A Brief Overview

What is Metal Additive Manufacturing? This introductory video covers the basics of metal AM (3D printing), a few of the many types of metal AM, how the metal powders are made, and a few of the types of metal powders currently in use.

Introducing Powder Metallurgy & the PM Industry

A basic overview of several powder metallurgy processes, this video includes a discussion on press-and-sinter, metal injection molding, isostatic pressing, and metal additive manufacturing, as well as a broad overview of the PM industry.

Powder Metallurgy Touches Your Life, Part 1

Powder Metallurgy: The Preferred Metal-Forming Solution, showcases the fabrication capabilities of the various technologies known collectively as powder metallurgy (PM). Built on the theme, Every day, in some way, PM touches your life, the 2-part program uses dozens of examples of actual components manufactured for many different applications to illustrate the benefits PM offers parts designers and engineers.

Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP)

This is an introduction to the technology of hot isostatic pressing (HIP), which is generally used to produce large powder metallurgy (PM) parts to near-net shapes of varied complexity. The hermetic container for the powder is made of metal or glass and the pressurizing medium is a gas (inert argon or helium). At the elevated temperatures the process employs, the hermetic container deforms plastically to compact the powder within it. The combination of heat and pressure during the process eliminates the need for a supplemental sintering step. Produced by the Isostatic Pressing Association.

Tutorial on the Proper Powder Handling for Safety and Quality

This tutorial will cover the risks associated with the handling of metal powders along with detailing some of the industries known best practices for the safe handling of metal powders.  Also covered in the presentation are methods used to reduce contamination of the metal powders during the handling and use in the metal additive manufacturing systems.

Design Decision Guide for Powder Metallurgy

This video presents a brief decision process and guide for determining feasibility of PM technology for successful PM part production. John Engquist, former president of the Center for Powder Metallurgy Technology (CPMT), is the presenter.
